Enthusiasm. That's my glass of life juice every morning. ...and some at lunch... I'll drink it up at coffee... Probably another glassful before bed. I'll drink up that juice all day long...every...single...day. Everyone measures and values it differently. What is enthusiasm to you? Is it even part of your vocabulary? I find I not only constantly measure my own enthusiasm, but also of those I chose to include in my life. Enthusiasm equals effort and is necessary no imperative, if you're going to make anything out of your life. We're talking family, relationships, work, fun... success all based on the amount of enthusiasm you choose to put into it. Personally, I am attracted to others that have that same type of enthusiasm because it also continues to feed my own. Enthusiasm is a great thing, it is something to be celebrated. If you think about it carefully, and you're choosing who you surround yourself with... who do you chose? I chose those with that same energy level, enthusiasm level because I know that the positive energy that comes along with that is gold and well gold is good. Enthusiasm is contagious... have you thought about spreading some around? Many people go through life half baked...fence sitters...watching life go by whilst others are embracing the moment. Seize the day...yet another cliché but oh so true. How about, live in the moment, or better yet appreciate those moments. If you spend all of your time pulling back the reins, perhaps it's because you don't feel like you deserve more. Trust me, you deserve more. Perhaps it's because you have not found that magic way of just experiencing life and just letting go. Trust yourself, trust what is being put in your path. When worry and overthinking overtake your ability to enjoy life to it's fullest, it might be time to give your head a shake. I gentle shake, but a shake none the less. If you haven't yet...think about it this way, while you were sitting and thinking, your opportunities keep passing you by. Being careful is great, making good choices is smart but do know that you can do that AND live enthusiastically all at once. Sometimes, in thinking about things too much, you lose the joy of just being present and full engaged. If you look carefully you can see a difference in the way people look when they are enthusiastic about everything they do. The energy they give off draws others towards them, they glow in a matter of speaking. Enthusiasm is born from the confidence that everything we do in life is a great adventure and really, like I always say, jump with both feet in. Live. Enjoy. Create. Most of all let your enthusiasm be a gift to others. Moth to a flame I think the old saying is or better yet, bees to honey. On any given day I want to be that flame or that honey...in fact I strive towards that. I want the enthusiasm that I have for life...that zest to flow through to those around me. I won't ever apologize for my enthusiasm because its rare. Its rare and its in high demand...those who do not see the worth cannot understand its relevance, and they truly are missing out. ENTHUSIASM is the essence of the success of our lives...of our relationships. Most of all it is the life juice that makes this ride we call life, worthwhile.

Tina Jones knows all about 'Harvesting' .... the intricacies of harvesting grapes that is... which are the best grapes, the most flavourful, how they in turn create the best wines around the world. She's also a keen business woman and a very active part in many Winnipeg events, one of the leaders in our community. We are thrilled to announce that Tina Jones of BANVILLE AND JONES, is the latest addition to our charity Winnipeg Harvest event on APRIL 29, 2016. She has gone over and above to make an effort to help us out and will be providing the wine selections for the event along with the help of her amazing staff. Tina's expertise in planning events will be so welcomed, we feel very fortunate indeed, in having her on board. Thanks Tina! I love success stories. Tina Jones is one of them. If you ever have the chance to say hello to this dynamo, do, she's amazing. She is also the Jones behind everything fabulous in BANVILLE AND JONES. "Tina has overseen the growth of Banville and Jones, into the largest private wine store and destination wine school in the province. Tina has created the environment for wine education to meet the highest international standards, making it possible for her staff to pursue studies in wine, including with Banville & Jones Wine Institute, the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, the French Wine Society and Court of Master Sommeliers. She has brought chefs together with wine lovers and food lovers to create exciting private and charity events in the province. Her work has raised the bar in the hospitality industry and for the Sommelier profession." I am always impressed by those that are diverse in their business and Tina is that, she has created a unique business in which she not only has a top notch wine store, but also a magazine called, "The Cellar Door". It's a beautiful publication that focuses on wines from around the world and shares an experience beyond just buying bottle of wine. The ambiance of the wine store is something all in itself, the details of the interior design is spectacular ... it feels like you are inside a winery ... and it's down the street from me. It doesn't really get better than that. We look forward to working with Tina on this project and welcome her aboard the "harvesting hope" team. Excerpt from http://www.banvilleandjones.com/about
We all know how much I love cars ... fast cars ... shiny cars ... I almost love cars as much as I love fashion and art (and red wine)... almost, actually they all might rank equally. As a stylist the fashion piece is a given, as an artist, I appreciate other's art as much as I like creating it. It's a great thing that I will get to appreciate all of these in the same space. How is that possible? Well ... we are creating an event that has all of these aspects as well as celebrating wellness under one roof. The goodness just keeps coming. What else? Just you wait. I am so pleased to announce that Amber and Trevor Nott of NOTT Auto Corp are partnering with us to host our "Harvesting Hope" charity event on April 29, 2016. They have kindly offered their beautiful Luxury Car Dealership and Art Gallery to hold this very unique event. We will fill the car and art gallery with amazing people that are looking to help support each other and our community. They opened their arms and said, "Let's do this! We would love to support this cause!" Amber has joined us in the organizing and planning along with NOTT staffers. Their space is remarkable. The designer in me is always thrilled when environment plays a role in creating an experience. An experience is definitely what you get, I want to work there just because it's so beautiful! I'm so impressed when people think outside of the box and put in the extra effort. Together ... we will be ... HARVESTING HOPE ... HARVESTING FOOD ... HARVESTING GOODWILL We could not ask for better partners! There will be something for everyone at the event... and I get to drool over the vehicles. It's all good. It's going to be a great event ... lots of fabulous people, lots of fabulous fashion, food and wine.
More than that ... We all get to work together and support local business and support a charity that we can all get behind. Feeding our hungry ... that seems like a worthy cause to me. Winnipeg Harvest feeds thousands of people a week. If you haven't read our blog piece on our support for Winnipeg Harvest, please go to : I Have Become A Farmer If you would like to join us in this endeavor, please feel free to contact me and we will welco9me you with open arms. #helpinghands #Winnipegharvest I’m really excited about this project. REALLY excited. I know. Most of you that know me are going … Charis … farming? No way. She’s just not the farming type… maybe when she was the Stoneboat Queen but since then, not so much. Okay, the truth is, it’s not really farming, it’s HARVESTING. What’s the difference you’re asking. Well, first of all, I’m not hucking bales of hay, I’m not picking rocks or getting dirty playing in the mud. I’m not saying that’s what all farmers do, but it is what I used to do when I was farming, so it’s all in context. Get on with it Charis. Harvesting. Harvesting HOPE. Harvesting FOOD. Harvesting GOODWILL. I came upon David Northcott through a family member just recently and was so impressed by this dynamo. We had a business meeting about a month ago and I was completely blown away by what this man and the organization that he is working with are trying to accomplish. David is the Executive Director of Winnipeg Harvest … working hard every single day to ensure that there is food in the bellies of our poor and homeless. He took me on a tour of the facility and there were many things that struck me, not only about the facility, but about David. First of all he exudes this kindness to everyone, mixed with a get it done attitude. It amazed me that of all the staff and volunteers that were working that day, he knew each of them by name, he gave a smile and a hello. TO ALL OF THEM. Attention to detail, and I would say, a man that cares about his environment and the people in it. I was introduced to many of the staffers and volunteers and was equally impressed with their zest for their part in this amazing organization. The sheer volume of food that goes through that facility, was nothing less that astounding, might border on shocking. All brought on by the overwhelming need of OUR community. Let’s define community: I always thought that Winnipeg Harvest had a few locations within the city. My ignorance is astounding, I will admit it. Did you know that Winnipeg Harvest not only sends provisions to all food banks within the city but in locations around the province of Manitoba? Yes, the province. They have a map at the front of the building showing exactly where they send food too. Again…I had no idea. 40 tons. They go through 40 tons of food per week. Did you catch that ... 40 TONS? What struck me were the programs that went far beyond providing food for our hungry. I was amazed and I thought, wow, they are seriously being proactive in trying to also alleviate the issues that surround some of our hungry. How? By providing TRAINING: job experience, job skills, gardening and food handling and preparation. They are even starting a shoe program in conjunction with Canadian Footwear, teaching the skills on shoe repair and in turn providing shoes for the more unfortunate. We will talk about these magnificent and leading edge programs in following blog pieces. I think that we need to know about the great things that they are creating over there at Winnipeg Harvest. They truly are making a BIG difference in our community. Did you know that they built a community garden? Tucked into the back of the property is a lovely patch of earth where they teach their clients about growing their own food as well as the cycle of actually what it takes to produce the food that they are eating. From there, they harvest the vegetables and take them into the Winnipeg Harvest kitchen to help prepare food for more clients. Volunteers ... There are volunteers everywhere. The best thing is … many of the clients volunteer themselves, their part of giving back, I think that is utterly amazing. It’s like a pay it forward community. Long story short, I told David that I wanted to write a series of blog pieces showcasing the amazing work they were doing here. That’s how this all started. When I got back to my office I started thinking about how visiting Winnipeg Harvest made me feel. I was overwhelmed by the number of people they are trying to help, and their ingenuity in trying to help their clients become independent. I wanted to help somehow. Oddly enough, in another part of my life, I was putting together a celebration event with two other team members and friends, Jodian Self and Lori Orchard. We had put together this program for whole life wellness, and had just rolled it out. We had decided that at the end of the program, we wanted to have a celebration to encourage our own clients and to mark their transformations in wellness, in a special way. The team and the company that we work with in this area of my life, is all about family, about looking at the bigger picture, and giving back to your community. We decided that not only were we going to support our clients but wanted to support a home-grown charity at the same time. We considered several, but we also had specific parameters that we wanted to meet. We wanted to see our efforts make a difference immediately in the hands of those that needed it the most. We chose Winnipeg Harvest. I have included a beautiful document below that will give you the full impact of what this organization is doing. You will be impressed ... you will be amazed. How does this fit in to what we do? What's the connection? Wellness, food, and transformation. We looked at the fact that most of us are fortunate enough to be able to DECIDE what kind of food we want to eat, to make healthy choices. We looked at the fact that we get to DECIDE how we manage our wellness through eating clean, exercising and including our families in those choices. WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE ... WE HAVE A CHOICE. How can people function properly, learn at school, get a job, when they can't think straight because they are starving. Worrying about when your next meal is going to hit your belly, that becomes paramount in your existence and your survival. WE ARE FORTUNATE ... WE HAVE A CHOICE. SO ... we decided that we wanted to help give some of these people a helping hand up. Maybe if their bellies are full, some of the other things will start to fall into place. We are HARVESTING HOPE. We are HARVESTING GOODWILL. We decided that we would open the event up to the bigger community ... our community. Not just Winnipeg but Manitoba ... is nothing less than a very caring and generous . Who wouldn't want to get behind feeding the countless of hungry souls in our own backyard? As it turns out, the support that we are getting for the event has been nothing less than amazing. As we garner more support I will feature each one of our amazing partners in this blog, so we all can appreciate just how fabulous these people are. It's growing every day. How incredible is that? Our event, will take place on Friday, April 29, 2016. Keep posted for all the details and mark it off it your calendar. Fashion Show, Wine and Eats ... all in a very unique setting... let's just say that both the men and women will enjoy the event. If this event happens to pull at your heart strings, the love of your neighbour and helping the less fortunate ... we would love your help and support. Please keep posted for more details and contact me if you would like to lend a hand.
Well ... the Vikings have risen again.
I wanted to share with all of the avid M.O.B. followers the newest addition to the Viking wedding from this past July. This week, the movie version came out... Dancing Vikings. The title, is indicative of the joyous and sometimes raucous behaviour of all Vikings, big and small, Vikings by genealogy or by choice, some were even inducted into the Viking clan that evening. The Induction ceremony was somewhat archaic but none the less, effective and Head gear was donned by the newest of the Vikings. The tale made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me want to do it all over again. With air conditioning this time. There are some movies that you watch and you think ... man I wish my life was like that ... then I realized, hey... that is our life. Right there on the big screen. The best part was ... the movie is indicative of everything that the day was as well as the people that were cast in this feature film. The main characters were brilliantly cast, I couldn't have chosen them better myself. They were witty and they were emotional, they portrayed what a true love that most of us dream about, looks like. The rest of the cast ... outstanding ... they were funny, they danced up a storm, sometimes to the right beat, they delivered their lines with grace and with perfect timing.(A bit of improv never hurt anyone.) I was happy that some of the more REAL moments ... most having to do with Brennevin ... good old Viking spirits, stayed on the cutting room floor. I want to say thank you to the brilliant director, and executive producer, Sean Philips of A Moving Picture Studios for his exceptional work. He too is now an honorary Viking. (One by one, we will take over the world. Lol.) Seriously talented that man and I hope to do more work with him in the future. Please take a look at this feature film ... a love story set on the shores of Viking Land. You'll laugh, you'll cry ... and then you're going to call me because you want to hang out with us. :) Enjoy. Did You know that today is ACTUALLY World Hug Day? I didn't. I saw a post from one of my friends today and then I thought...man my timing is awesome...pat on back. Why? Yesterday I posted an Instagram photo of hugging.
Human touch. Is it becoming a thing of the past too? I Hug. All the time. People that know me know that I am a hugger. I like that it makes people feel great. Do you know the research on what a hug can do for you? I think if more people knew, they would be hugging others too. All the time. There are many studies out there that talk about the effects on humans and hugs. Good things. Huffington Post shared "7 reasons Why We Should Be Giving More Hugs": Numbero Uno: It feels good... it actually creates oxytocin ... the feel good hormone. Deux: It lowers blood pressure...YES! All you folks suffering from high blood pressure, GET HUGGING! Three: Alleviating fear. Four: Hugging is good for our hearts. Five: Decrease feelings of loneliness Six: Stress Release, reduces cortisol, relieves tension and anxiety and sends calming messages to the brain. Seven: Fighting of Infections according to a study done by Carengie Mellon University. I don't know about you but I'm duly impressed. I guess that is why I hug people all day long. Next time you hug someone, notice how someone's stance and demeanor change once you've opened up and given them a hug. And... then the smile that comes afterwards. The walls go down, and in my world ... people know where I come from. It is also a dead give away about the person you are hugging ... are they accepting, or do they shy away. Are they uncomfortable because it's out of their comfort zone, or because they are unsure about the release of oxytocin and happiness that they feel. A hug costs you nothing to give and costs you nothing to receive. I've noticed that people that are more giving of themselves, emotionally, mentally and physically have an easier time at this hugging stuff. Probably because we understand the benefits. Those that have a hard time expressing emotions, those that have built up walls around themselves for protection, and especially those that have never been in a hugging environment ... have a hard time accepting this hugging stuff. However, the more they practice, the more the LEAN IN, the more they relax and enjoy. HUG THERAPY: Get on it. Check out this TED talk below and you will get a better understanding about oxytocin and it's relationship to our bodies and to of course hugging. It's good brain fodder, it will give you something to think about. In Psychology today, an article by Dr. Vance Johnson, he mentions Paul Zak, PhD. Dr. Zak prescribes eight hugs a day as a basic of health in his TED talk. (http://www.ted.com/talks/paul_zak_trust_morality_and_oxytocin.html (link is external)) Dr. Zak Zak graduated with degrees in mathematics and economics from San Diego State University before acquiring a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is professor at Claremont Graduate University in Southern California. He has studied brain imaging, and was the first to identify the role of oxytocin in mediating trusting behaviors between unacquainted humans. An easy way to stimulate the brain to release Oxytocin is hugging. The research is great, yes it backs up my daily hug quota, but my own experience is enough for me. I know it makes people happy. I'm good with that. Making others happy, that's pretty damn great. I'm going to post this on all of my social media, although it's late on WORLD HUG DAY, and I want to see how many others make an effort to hug someone today. Do it...tell me what happens. Take photos of everyone you can hug today and post it, on my facebook page if we are connected. Post on all of your social media and use the hashtags: #worldhugday #withthesearms and #CharisOnLife. Let's spread some oxytocin! I'm sending all of you a virtual hug today, because I can. Remember at least 8 hugs a day ... to keep the blues and the doctor away. XO Turkeys or Eagles ... The question is much more life changing than you realize. I was reading an article the other day about how to reach your goals from people that have become uber successful. No matter what book you read, podcast you listen to ... it all comes down to the same principles. If you want to elevate who you are, what you do, then surround yourself with those that raise your vibration. Raise it up baby! I had a brilliant meeting with Jonathon Leech, VP of Harris Printing, one of several family businesses that have remained successful in the days where family businesses are becoming few and far between. The guy is not only intelligent, but comes to the table with an engineering degree and a career in the aerospace industry. He has a gift, a gift of communication. This is amazing in this day and age where communication is becoming a lost art. AND ... he was hilarious. We covered not only my printing needs but that of the disintegration of social graces, communication, kids, business, social media... yup, we covered it all. I went to him because I believe in supporting the people that we know...especially in business and especially locally if I can. I'm on the road to moving up my book plan ... The Humble Pie Chronicles ... keeps trucking along. In our discussion of people in general ... he came up with this quote ... he is a quote guy. The one that is posted above, I had never heard it before. He was surprised I hadn't ... and we all know I'm a quote kinda girl. It resonated with me because it is one of the things that I know to be true and one of the things that I try to promote with my clients and in all my writing. Turkeys or Eagles. I've had times where I've fallen out of the sky and thought a turkey here or there might defy gravity and learn to fly along side me ... but in reality ... turkeys don't fly. Me and Turkeys...not so much. Nothing in common there. I know from my own experiences that in hanging out with the turkeys, they do indeed bring you down to their level, whether you are aware of it or not. It's happens quickly... before you know it, you're molting turkey feathers. Wait... do turkeys molt? Well, whether they do or not... you get the picture. I am not one that is ground bound. I'm not good with other ground bound birds either... I recognize that. It's simple, I just don't understand turkey mentality. I fact most times I find it mind boggling. Why would anyone want to be ground bound? Sometimes I think that some of us aren't even aware that turkeys have taken over our lives. Sometimes it happens and you need an eagle to coming soaring in to say... hey... smarten up... it's time to fly. I find that some people like being turkeys and like being ground bound. Flying isn't for everyone. I think it's about comfort zone ... familiarity and it's easy. Not as much work when you don't have to spread your wings and take off. Some ... are afraid to fly ... afraid to step of the edge and soar. I would like to think in my life ... I want to fly... I look at raising my own vibration to that of other eagles. I don't want to be ground bound and I always encourage my clients to set their goals at eagle level. I would rather die from fear of flying to destinations unknown, than hanging out in the turkey barn. So find others that raise your vibration... we are all energy... we can be positive energy or negative energy ... find the positive energy and soak it up. Not only that, share it. Me ... I want eagles in my life... lots of them. I want my kids to be eagles ... I want my clients to be eagles. Raise yourself up. Turkeys ... good for Christmas dinner ... stuffed ... with cranberry jelly. Christmas can be a struggle for many people, it becomes stressful because of the expectations that we have put on ourselves to buy the best, buy the most, buy, buy and buy some more. There have been several times in my lifetime I remember scrounging to be able to buy gifts, some years were much leaner than others. Some years spending more than I should have, some years spending more because I could and perhaps making up for the years that I couldn't. Many years I added several more grey hairs to the collection wondering how I was ever going to pull it off. The joys of being a single parent. None the less, married parents, grandparents, kids, everyone goes through this stress. In the last 5 years, in having my own business and just circumstances again I will refer to as Humble Pie, I did find myself struggling more than I would like to admit. There was a point that I realized that I wasn't going to be able to any gifts at all, never mind that, Christmas dinner was even up in the air. The thoughts that came into my head were not about me and what I felt I was experiencing but moreso that there are families EVERY SINGLE YEAR that cannot buy gifts or food ... or pay their mortgage and rent or their bills. EVERY SINGLE YEAR. So ... although I was feeling rather melancholy, I felt grateful that I hadn't experienced more lean years. I hoped I never would again. What came out of it however, was rather remarkable. Thanks to my fantastic children, they embraced a new tradition, one in which we will continue with. I think the other part of what I realized is how ridiculous Christmas had become, and the amounts of money that were being spent whether people had it or not. I haven't shopped in malls at Christmas for years ... it was just shopping chaos and it didn't feel to 'Christmasy' fighting with the crowds. It too much craziness and stress. I chose to shop at the smaller stores and the boutique shops to choose more one of a kind gifts if I could. It felt ... well ... more personal. So long story short, last year we decided that we were going to draw names and everyone had to create WITH THEIR OWN HANDS ... a gift from the heart. No store bought allowed. We seriously had to hunker down and think outside the box, blend that with what we knew that people love and what we had the ability to create. Everyone put their thinking caps on, and scoured the internet for ideas that grabbed the true essence of the person they were asked to create gift for. I do believe that Pinterest was our number one go to. I will pin our gift board on the side if you want to DIY any of our fabulous ideas. I was really amazed at the amazing gifts ... the very thoughtful gifts that everyone came up with. The grandparents wanted to still be able to give a gift to everyone because that is just what grandparents do, we all asked for the same gifts from each of them. From my dad, one of his carvings. He carves these beautiful pieces and yes, he literally set to work carving each of us our own piece. Now, my dear mother, much to her chagrin, is the queen of the Icelandic layer cake, Vinarterta (recipe link included) and although her and my dad have been making us a Vinarterta every year, each of the kids requested one as well. So dear ol' mum was baking cake day in and day out. I have mentioned how amazing they are have I not? Vikings love Vinarterta. My daughter drew my name and so let's start with that. She and her husband Ian, went on an extended trip last fall across western Canada and then down the West coast of the US. Not only did they explore the wilds of every national park but they were also engaged on that trip. My daughter is a bit of a photography buff and took some amazing photos on their travels ... for my gift, she knew I loved art, of all kinds. She created four canvas prints of different tress barks in the different parks and decoupaged them onto canvas. They were outstanding. I had drawn my son Devon's name and it didn't take long for me to figure out what he might like. I created a collection of photographs of him and his lovely girlfriend Britt from over the years and put them in a collage. They had recently moved into a new apartment, and there was plenty of wall space for art and photographs, they didn't have any pictures of themselves as a couple. I gave him one of my paintings as well. I started painting again about a year and a half ago after a 20 year hiatus and decided that it would be nice to give my parents one of the paintings I had done, the first one actually. My son-in-law Ian, made Miss Britt the most adorable magnetic "To Do Board". He knew that Britt studies all day long, and all night long, what better gift than something that can keep her organized. They ended up making one for Ian's sis as well because they loved how they turned out! Devon my son, made the most remarkable piece of string art for his sister Steph. The painstaking hours it took to create this, I cannot imagine. All of my kids were blessed with the artistic gene, they just don't get to enjoy it all the time. I actually think that in starting to create our gifts, it has started a new family evolution back into the world of art. Note that one of my dad's Santa carvings made the pic as well. Britt drew Ian's name ... she was worried that she wasn't artistic enough to participate, her creation garnered the most fun of all of them. She made a yard Yahtzee set, which was a ton'o'fun to say the least. We sat outside at Steph and Ian's new place in the backyard, drank wobbly pops and I think Mama C whipped her kids into Yahtzee shape. Kael, our youngest Viking painted along side his mother and made everyone a contemporary piece, his first foray into the world of acrylic painting. Now most days when I pull out my paints, he is right there with me. We are in the midst of creating our 2015 Christmas gifts and I can't wait to post the latest and greatest Viking Christmas creations. I will be busy this evening doing just that ... Kael by my side, how great is that. My favourite feel goods these days are the articles, videos and posts on random acts of kindness. I feel rather blessed this week (and its only Tuesday) that I have had many come my way. I'm sitting editing marketing pieces this afternoon when this young dude comes a knockin' on my door. As he is standing on the steps with the greatest grin ever, he says, " Would you like me to shovel your driveway?" Wait ... back up ... I'm going to interject with my story telling and give you some background ...I had literally just driven up the drive this afternoon thinking, oh man, I should have done the driveway before it all go hard and crusty. Not only that, someone left the gate open which is now "snowed open" because the side wasn't shoveled the last snow fall. I also remind myself how much I hate shoveling. No kids home until the weekend...ugh. The other thing it reminded me of is that I really don't like winter, we just don't get along. I should have been born on a tropical island somewhere. Give me sand any day. Then ... little dude shows up. Not only is he asking to shovel the driveway but he's HAPPY about it. I think I was a little taken aback. So ... I bite ... how much I ask? He beams again and says, "For FREE!" The only thing I could respond was "REALLY?????" (insert shock and disbelief) "Yup FREE!!!" I told him that I thought that he was a remarkable kid to be offering such a generous Random Act Of Kindess, RAOK. The thing was, he truly was excited about it. He brought his ice hacker, thingy madoodley and a yellow shovel. He said that because he brought both he would make sure that there were no icy spots left either. SO IMPRESSED right at this moment. He will be a great husband to some lucky lady one day. I hope I find one like that some day ... LOL. Off he went to work, and literally got it right down to the concrete. I kept thinking that not only is he a great kid, meant for great things, but his parents must be pretty fantastic too, or whoever is raising little dude. This guy has it right. He wanted to do something nice and well he is saving up for something special he said. (I did give him some appreciation cash, as I was so thankful that he had done the driveway) I asked him what he wanted to buy. "A bag of salt and my own shovel." A bag of salt and his own shovel. The AWWWWW and adorability factor went through the roof at this point. Then I asked him why. "Well,' he said," if I had a bag of salt I could make sure that you didn't have any ice on your driveway and well, I would like my own shovel. I borrowed this from my neighbor so that I could do this." A bag of salt and a shovel. I was so impressed with this little dude. There are big things in that kid's future ... and the biggest reason is that he is full of light. Spreading kindness like that, not everyone can be as generous with their time, or of themselves. I myself try to do these same things because I love to see how wonderful it makes people feel, even if it is for just a fleeting moment. He made my day. |
