Introducing The S.M.O.BMindset.
It's everything. Since I posted my last facebook post in my private coaching group for nutrition, I've had many of my clients connect with me as they also want to join me in this new challenge. I always say, the more the merrier, and group support whether it is visible or not is a huge motivator. I’ve put it out there, in my last blogpost, Mount Everest ... Again, that I’ve had some challenges with an injury, being immobile and food cravings from medications that have caused me to add some weight. I have always known that I need a goal. I have always needed something to drive me towards that end goal. You all are familiar with the M.O.B. Project , (if you aren't check it out) and it created quite a movement, for myself, for our family and for countless others. There has been nothing more gratifying than helping and supporting people in making a change in their lives to become healthy! I not only met my goal but exceeded it and went on to even greater opportunities because of it. Those that I was coaching directly are part of this private group, The M.O.B. Squad Clubhouse, as I lovingly named them. It’s a group of like-minded folks that decided they wanted to not only join me in my challenge but to start their own. I started this movement in June of 2015, (those that know this story, hang tight), almost two years later, I am still going strong but had a bit of a set back when I was injured at work in October of 2016. Now, I’m fighting to come back from that. No matter what my limitations are right at this moment, I am stepping up my recovery and aiming to lose about 10 pounds that I put on because of being immobile as well as suffering from food cravings from the medications I was on. AND now I have a goal. My daughter from anotha motha is getting married May 6, 2017 and I want to shed this immobilization fat and be a fabulous S.M.O.B … the Secondsy Mom of the Bride. (Ha! I crack myself up. For those who are avid Lord of the Rings followers you will know where the secondsy part comes in…) There’s my goal. There’s my time limit. AND the whole S.M.O.B. thing just makes it fun for me. So … now that you have the back ground … back to Mindset. Did I mention that mindset is everything? I guess the first thing I would say is that, ask yourself what’s holding you back from making the changes that you need in your life right now. If you’ve got hesitations or fears, write them down. ALL OF THEM. Then I want you to go back and look at your list again, How many of your fears are actual fears and how many items on your list are really just you not wanting to make a change because it’s just too much work and effort? Life coach speaking here … Anything that is worthwhile takes time, effort, and damn hard work to attain. Don’t be lazy. Don’t give yourself an excuse not to at least try. The biggest step in changing your mindset, is making the decision to make a change. Sounds simple doesn’t it? For some it is, for others its rather daunting. That’s why having a group around you that is supportive and understands your struggles is so important. Everyone makes change at a different pace. Everyone has different levels of willpower and perseverance. Everyone has different triggers and motivators. Thinking that we all fit into the same box is unrealistic. That’s why I appreciate the groups that I have that surround me. In many instances, I haven’t met these people personally, but we are drawn together from our mutual experiences, our mutual support in trying to reach our goals. The rest is easier, it seems to follow naturally. Nutritionally, my biggest challenge is going to be dumping some of the crap I've been eating because of my cravings. Now that I'm off those pain meds, I'm hoping I have more control. I think, if I dig deep enough, I was also looking at some of the food I was eating as comfort food. Or what my version of comfort food used to be. It's weird how your brain goes there. Funny thing is, I would feel absolutely disgusting after eating it. That's the great thing about being on this program, your body talks to you. Mine at the time was going "what the hell are you doing? Why on earth are you eating that garbage? My body was YELLING at me, “that was a really stupid idea, and now you’re going to pay”. I like that, I like that my body has been eating so well over the past two years that it now tells me I’m being an idiot. The trick here is actually listening to our bodies. I will be posting some private blogs in our coaching group as to how I have modified my own program to suit my own needs, my body’s needs and still get what I need out of the program. The key here again is, everyone is different, and I think needs to be treated as such. Using common sense in all aspects of this is important, but so is doing your homework, read, learn, and mostly, pay attention. I understand this whole thing a bit differently now as the challenges that I’ve had over the past five months, have given me a completely different perspective. Moreso, someone else’s perspective into what challenges others. It has been an invaluable and tough lesson. In the end, has made me a better coach in all aspects of my business as learning life experiences usually are. I also am down one scale, it broke in the move, and I never replaced it. I didn’t think I needed it either as I was determined to not to put on weight, I was ecstatically happy where I was. Then, last month, all my new clothes were feeling a bit snug. I was mortified. I learned however, that I have a love hate relationship with the scale. I love it because I am a benchmark kind of gal. The scale not only made me accountable for my weight and health, but it provided a subtle support and a bit of gratification to keep going. Right or wrong, I don’t think there is one. We all must figure out what works best for each of us individually. Just don’t be obsessed with your scale, make it only a lukewarm kinda love. I hate the scale because it makes me accountable for being stupid. Isn’t that why we all hate the scale? That damn accountability. That being said, I’m not tied to having a scale, it was slightly enlightening and uplifting not to even think about getting on the scale to see how was doing. Here’s the tragic part, it also made me lazy and put my health also on the back burner because I wasn’t paying attention to my weight with all the other stuff I was dealing with. So … bottom line … I need accountability … and I’m going out today to buy a new scale. This is all part of self-awareness. Do you know yourself what your triggers are? What works for you and what doesn’t? Sit down and figure it out. What stops you in your progress to meet your own goals? For some, they simply don’t like being part of a group and choose to do their thing on their own. I totally support this as well, not everyone is a support group, group hug type of personality. But here’s the thing, what does work for you? What do you need to be successful in achieving your own goals? Are you self-aware enough to be able to identify those factors then make a change? Knowing what your challenges are is half the battle, then at least you know how to forge ahead. What I would say here is this, know what it is that you require to succeed, identify and make a change. Use your voice, tell others what you require from them to help you succeed, or what you don’t need from them. All valid points. To those that like to go at it on your own, try finding someone that you connect with that can give you the kind of support that you need, you might be surprised at how good it feels to not be trudging through on your own. Ask for help if you need it, if one person doesn’t have the answer, then ask someone else. To the folks at large, and to my own coaching group, it’s up to you to drive your own success. Determine what your goals are, write it down. Figure out a plan of attack and get your mindset on track. Pump yourself up. Then … go for it. This S.M.O.B. aka M.O.B. of days of old, has a goal, and I’m determined to reach it. I would love the company and appreciate all the support that everyone has always provided. Monday is G Day … GO DAY. For those that already are on this train with me, I’m starting with a cleanse day, time to get motivated. Then, back to basics. As for today. Bacon. I’m going to eat bacon.
