Mothers …Mom…Mommy…Ma So many different labels for that special MAMA in your house. Over here I’m known as Mama C ... to my kids and to all of their friends. It’s a name I’m proud to wear, I love and appreciate that it has gone past the confines of our family. It makes me proud to be a Mama and that others think of me as such. But… this isn’t about me. This is about the countless Mom’s out there and what I hope is an appreciation that you can take to the bank. I know I cannot thank my own mother enough. I do try tell her as much as I can, try to phone when I can and make the drive as much as I can. Some days that road has been a long one, some days not, we all has families have trials and tribulations that hopefully make us stronger. I know that over the years, in fact I know without doubt, that without my dear mom, I’m not sure how I would have kept trucking along. I am so utterly grateful. See… mom’s have this uncanny ability to know…well mine always does…that perhaps things are amiss. They know when their kids are happy, sad, running, running on empty, doing great, and sometimes not so great. They just know. And … regardless of the circumstance, mom’s are there anyhow, through thick and thin. They listen, give advice and then they listen some more, and then some more and let's face it, probably some more. Bless my mom she laughs at my jokes, my faux pas’ and always throws some light on everything. It’s kinda like fairy dust. Mommy fairy dust… we moms…have been lucky to be given the privilege of having mommy fairy dust to give, to sprinkle. It’s like the kiss on a boo-boo when our kids are small, as you grow older, sometimes it’s just a bigger boo-boo and the kiss may be a virtual one but that boo-boo always feels better. Us moms, we also have that ‘Boo-Boo Bye-Bye’ power thing going on too. Sprinkling Mommy Fairy Dust and Boo-Boo Bye-Bye Power. I know that in all of the world, if anyone has my back, it’s my mom. She supports me in everything that I have always done without wavering, because that is what mom’s do. They are there cheering us on when things are fabulous and they are there to help us pick up the pieces when they aren’t. I know my mom has. My mom however, has that extra superpower, she always knows when somethings up…she’ll phone because she can’t sleep, she’s restless or she’s excited awaiting the next adventurous moment. She will phone me and say, I can’t sleep, is everything okay? My mom… she always knows. I know my mom appreciates who I am and what I have become, the road has been long, and that same road has been damn hard. I know that I couldn’t have done it without her and her superpowers. Let’s not forget the fact she bakes us our favourite childhood treats. For us Icelanders, my mom is still the chief Vinaterta head chef and that title is not going to be passed down anytime soon, not if I can help it. Oh... and chief pieroghy maker … and chief meatball maker … and chief rullapylsa maker … and chief ponnukokkur maker …and on it goes. My mom stands behind me and holds me up. She silently encourages me to keep going, to keep moving forward, to keeping writing that book that’s gonna be a movie. Yes, that’s my mom… laughing along side of me every time there is another adventure that will forever be noted in the book. Sometimes, those adventures go straight to movie mode, and she’s there directing … book or movie… book or movie. Some adventures are better than others, but we laugh about them all, and it’s always seems better when you have someone to share them with. I know hands down that I can call my mom any day or night and say, “Hey, you’ll never believe what happened today” and I know, hands down that my mom’s answer is always the same, “Oh goodness I can wait to hear”. And … she means it. Then, she decides book or movie. Now it’s one thing to tell someone of your adventures and another thing to be able to laugh about it after. We laugh and we go… well, we’ll chalk that one up with the rest and wait for the next one. See, us moms, that’s what we do. ‘Sprinkle Mommy Fairy Dust’ and apply a good dose of ‘Boo-Boo Bye-Bye’ power. It works every time. We never get too old for that either, and there is comfort in knowing that it’s there to receive and it’s also ours to give. I know when my own daughter becomes a mom, she too will have those same magical powers… why because I have them, and I got them from my mom. And hers before that and so it goes. Being a mother isn’t a right, it’s a privilege. I myself feel grateful every second of every day that I am a mother, my life has been a collection of adventures around what being a mom is about. All of the things that we do to create great kids, along with the things that we do to try and be good parents. That is life. Well, it’s my life and I learned everything from the example that my mom has set. So … I’m celebrating today. I’m celebrating my mom … because she is amazing and I love her dearly. I’m celebrating myself, as a mother and as a Mama C for being the best mama that I can be. I’m celebrating all of my dear friends who are true gems as moms and I’ll tell your kids to tell you the same. (LOL) And last but not least … I celebrate the mom, my daughter will become one day, because she’ll be a great mom … that’s my legacy and my mom’s legacy… We will all continue to ‘Sprinkle Mommy Fairy Dust’ and use our Boo-Boo Bye-Bye power … every day. Because that is what mom’s do. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the impeccable women in my life that are working their fingers to the bone in trying their very best to be the very best. Most of all Happy Mother’s Day to my fabulous Mom. ******Sprinkling Mommy Fairy Dust****** Enthusiasm. That's my glass of life juice every morning. ...and some at lunch... I'll drink it up at coffee... Probably another glassful before bed. I'll drink up that juice all day long...every...single...day. Everyone measures and values it differently. What is enthusiasm to you? Is it even part of your vocabulary? I find I not only constantly measure my own enthusiasm, but also of those I chose to include in my life. Enthusiasm equals effort and is necessary no imperative, if you're going to make anything out of your life. We're talking family, relationships, work, fun... success all based on the amount of enthusiasm you choose to put into it. Personally, I am attracted to others that have that same type of enthusiasm because it also continues to feed my own. Enthusiasm is a great thing, it is something to be celebrated. If you think about it carefully, and you're choosing who you surround yourself with... who do you chose? I chose those with that same energy level, enthusiasm level because I know that the positive energy that comes along with that is gold and well gold is good. Enthusiasm is contagious... have you thought about spreading some around? Many people go through life half baked...fence sitters...watching life go by whilst others are embracing the moment. Seize the day...yet another cliché but oh so true. How about, live in the moment, or better yet appreciate those moments. If you spend all of your time pulling back the reins, perhaps it's because you don't feel like you deserve more. Trust me, you deserve more. Perhaps it's because you have not found that magic way of just experiencing life and just letting go. Trust yourself, trust what is being put in your path. When worry and overthinking overtake your ability to enjoy life to it's fullest, it might be time to give your head a shake. I gentle shake, but a shake none the less. If you haven't yet...think about it this way, while you were sitting and thinking, your opportunities keep passing you by. Being careful is great, making good choices is smart but do know that you can do that AND live enthusiastically all at once. Sometimes, in thinking about things too much, you lose the joy of just being present and full engaged. If you look carefully you can see a difference in the way people look when they are enthusiastic about everything they do. The energy they give off draws others towards them, they glow in a matter of speaking. Enthusiasm is born from the confidence that everything we do in life is a great adventure and really, like I always say, jump with both feet in. Live. Enjoy. Create. Most of all let your enthusiasm be a gift to others. Moth to a flame I think the old saying is or better yet, bees to honey. On any given day I want to be that flame or that honey...in fact I strive towards that. I want the enthusiasm that I have for life...that zest to flow through to those around me. I won't ever apologize for my enthusiasm because its rare. Its rare and its in high demand...those who do not see the worth cannot understand its relevance, and they truly are missing out. ENTHUSIASM is the essence of the success of our lives...of our relationships. Most of all it is the life juice that makes this ride we call life, worthwhile. |
